Wilfred G. Bernier, Sr., 75, of Burrillville, passed away March 6, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Carol A. (Costa) Bernier, whom he married July 24, 1965. Born in North Smithfield, he was the son of the late Henry Bernier, Sr., and Bertha (Paget) Bernier.
Mr. Bernier served in the National Guard. He was a maintenance supervisor for Hanora Spinning, retiring in the early 90s. Wilfred enjoyed woodworking, trips to the casino, hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, telling his campfire stories most of all.
Besides his wife, he leaves their children, Wilfred Bernier, Jr. of Burrillville, , Charlene Leduc, and her husband, Frederick, of Burrillville, Jeffrey Bernier, Sr. of Woonsocket ; eight grandchildren, Tracey and Michael Bernier of Woonsocket, Joshua Leduc and his wife Kendall of Gainesville Fla, Stephanie Leduc of Sterling CT, Lundyn and Jeffrey Bernier of Woonsocket, Ethan Bernier of North Providence, Courtney Brooks of Woonsocket; four brothers, Henry , Michael , Norman and Gerard Bernier ; three sisters, Claire Simoneau , Debra Rice , and Linda Foisy ; six great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by seven brothers, Ronald, Richard, Eddie, Paul(Snook), Roger, Robert, and Leo Bernier, and two sisters, Celia King and Theresa Theriault.
The family would like to thank Valerie and Vanessa from Hope Hospice Palliative Care Rhode Island for their compassionate support during our final days we were able to spend with him.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 10 AM in St. Pauls Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone. Freds wish was to be buried in his jeans and to have those attending his service wear jeans as well. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
