Richard “Rich” Manning, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Richard Manning and Linda (Rebello) Lavallee.
He is survived by his daughter, Hailey Manning of North Providence, his former wife, Lisa (O'Grady) Manning of North Providence, a brother Steven Manning and his wife Holly of Slatersville, an uncle, Kenneth Manning and his wife Cindy of Harrisville, his nephews and nieces, Skyler and Preston Manning, James and Ruby Ciummo, father in law and mother in law Kenneth and Marion O'Grady of North Providence, sister in law Kristen O’Grady and her husband Bruce Ciummo of Barrington and several beloved cousins.
Rich had the soul of an artist which he expressed through his culinary talents. A graduate of Johnson and Wales University, for many years he served as head or sous chef at some of Rhode Island's top-rated restaurants, including Three Steeple Street in Providence. When heath issues forced him to leave the restaurant business, he continued to share his gifts by working at a local nursing home. He was loved and respected not only for his talents in the kitchen, but for his care of the people for whom he lovingly prepared special meals. He shared his gifts with his family and friends by starting his own personal chef service, and was always willing to jump into the kitchen or in front of the BBQ grill at every party and event. Rich loved music and taught himself and others to play guitar, as well as wrote his own poetry and lyrics. He was a live music aficionado who enjoyed all types of concerts and events. Rich was also a member of the North Smithfield Holy Ghost Society.
Previously married to Lisa (O'Grady) Manning, they built a life together in North Providence and became the central heart and home for so many of their friends and family. His proudest achievement was becoming a father to Hailey Lyn Manning. He loved to take Hailey on adventures and spent much of her early childhood together every day as a stay-at-home dad, a role that he embraced with his typical good humor and creativity.
In recent years Rich's health issues became very debilitating and he suffered many losses. He will always be remembered for his strength in bearing many health issues throughout his life, as well as his compassion and creativity.
